When you are employed to carry out scuba diving, you must have a Certificate of Service after undergoing a medical examination in accordance with the Swedish Work Environment Authority's regulations AFS 2005:6 Medical controls in occupation. In Sweden, this survey must be carried out every 5 years for employees 40 years. Medical control is in the process of being standardized according to the European diving technology committee, EDTCs (Fitness to dive standard). At http://fhvmetodik.se/lakare-med-edtc-behorighet-i-sverige/ there is a list of most of the doctors who perform medical checks in accordance with the EDTC standard. The employer is obliged to ensure that you have undergone and have an approved service certificate before you are allowed to perform any diving. The employer is also obliged to pay for this checkup. The checkup must therefore not be paid for privately by the employee or by project funds that are dedicated to another purpose. It is subject to a penalty fee to allow an employee to dive without having approved a service certificate. The minimum penalty fee is SEK 15,000 and the highest fee is SEK 150,000. For the employer who has 500 or more employees, the fee is SEK 150,000. For those who have less than 500 employees, the penalty fee must be calculated as follows: Fee = SEK 15,000 + (number of employees - 1) x SEK 271.
